Vaccines

Many of the diseases that can affect dogs and cats are preventable through proper pet vaccinations. It is our goal for your pet to live a long and healthy life. Major health changes can occur in a shorter amount of time because, on average, dogs and cats age seven times faster than people.
Our vaccine protocols are tailored to your pet’s individual needs and risk of exposure to diseases. Let the knowledgeable staff at Rice Village Animal Hospital guide you through setting up a vaccination schedule for your dog or cat to keep him or her protected.

Vaccines For Dogs

Puppies receive a series of vaccines starting at 8 weeks of age through 16 weeks of age consisting of Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Bordetella, Leptospirosis, Influenza and Rabies. Adult dogs that have completed all their puppy vaccines will receive boosters of all vaccines at one year of age with a Heartworm Test. After that, the Leptospirosis, and Heartworm checks are yearly. Bordetella is exposure dependent every 6-12 months. Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza and Rabies vaccines are given every three years.

Vaccines For Cats

For kittens, we recommend a series of vaccines starting at eight weeks through 16 weeks of age. We routinely vaccinate for feline Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia, Chlamydia, Leukemia, and Rabies. We also advise all kittens to be tested for feline Leukemia and FIV at or after 11 weeks of age. Adult cats who have completed all their kitten vaccines and Leukemia/FIV test will receive boosters at one year of age. After that, vaccines for Distemper and Rabies are given yearly and the Leukemia vaccine is given every three years.
